Reseeded grass, but lots of weeds are up
Hi guys.
I am continuing with my mission to get my garden up to standard and need yet more help from you lot.
Last week I decided it was time to reseed/overseed my back lawn as it has been a mess since we moved in.
So I painstakingly took up hundreds of weeds from the root. Raked every last millimetre of moss and even dug up some dodgy areas.
Then I mowed right down to the dirt. Spiked it all and overlayed it with fertilizer. Spread the seeds nice and evenly, raked in. Even put a gentle dusting of patch magic over it (my brother bought it for me as a joke) and over the last week have been watering it accordingly.
Now I am not expecting to see any grass grow yet but my one concern is that there seem to be quite a few weeds already growing at quite a pace!
Theres a few dandelion as well as loads of those ones that look like shamrocks (sorry dont know the exact name).
Now I dont really wanna be walking over it and picking them as I am concerned I may disturb all the seeds and obviously chemicals ar a no no, so what do I do.
Shall I just let them be till I start mowing and hopefully that will kill them?

After all your hard work and effort, S4lvatore, I'd be tempted to dig out those weeds before they get a real hold on your lawn and squeeze out the grass seed.
Have you got a plank of wood that you can stand on, because you don't really want to walk on the newly seeded area?
With the dandelions, you need to dig the whole plant out, making sure that no root is left. Once it's out of the ground you can reseed that small little patch and water it. Alternatively, you can blast it with some weed killer - but it will take some time to die and you won't be able to reseed it until its well and truly dead.
The clover weeds are easier to deal with - just carefully lift them out when it's dry and they should come away easily in your hand. Or use a hand fork.
All the best - you sound very busy! :j0 -
Ok. I have the front to deal with this afternoon but I get a plank out do what you said, wish me luck!!!!!0
