hi all
after a good few years away from the gaming (specifically, CS) scene. I'm trying to get back into it. so I'm planning to buy the a full copy of the game, except...
searching Counter Strike and Half-life 2 returns numerous similarily named packages. Unhelpfully, not all of them have a detailed product description!
Could anyone tell me what is what?
CSCZ
CS Source
HL2
HL2 Game of the Year Edition
HL2 Episode One
Ahh!

CSCZ: single player version of CS
CS Source: Identical game to CS but using the HL2 Source engine
HL2: The Daddy of All Games
HL2 GOTY: Repackaged but identical Daddy of All Games
HL2 Episode 1: Mini sequel to HL2, fun and you don't need HL2 to play it but storyline wise I'd recommend getting HL2 first.
Watch out for further episodes, as one of the Valve bosses said in an interview the naming is confusing and really it should be Half Life 3 Episode 1 but it's still really under the HL2 brand and not much of a step forward just more content."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

CSCZ - This is counter strike condition zero, not very good apparently.
CS Source - Latest version of counter strike using the graphics engine used for Half Life 2. I beleive you get this free if you buy half life 2, either in the form of a disc if you buy it in the shop or via a online steam account (a download service where you can but Half Life 2 etc)
Not sure about the other version of Half Life 2, I oresum they are just additional versions of the game that include new content. A quick search on play.com should answer that.
Oh, and Half Life 2 is also meant to be a great game.0 -
Have a look at Battlefield 2 and America's Army. Both excellent multiplayers games. I've personally not played a better multiplayer game than BF2.
64 players on a map, squads, commanders, vehicles, choppers, planes, artillery, it's got everything. I still play it a year and a half on.
America's Army is a little more tactical. Much like Rogue Spear."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Half life 2 is what you want! counter strike :source(like CS but more pretty...) is included, you can either buy half life in shops or download steam(their new update program and piracy checker)0

Half Life 2: Bronze Package
That is the specific thing of what you want. Go to steampowered.com and create an account. Then purchase Half Life 2 Bronze package through steam. This will give you Half Life 2 and Coutner Strike Source.
CS:S I play regularly. Imagine CS with MUCH better graphics.. thats CS:S... same maps (changed lil bits) and same guns. Lot more power hungry though so make sure you have a decent spec! CS 1.6 is still very popular though and I think you get half life 1 with bronze package (u may need to double check) meaning you get CS 1.6 as well!
Either way cs:s is now the big game on enemydown etc... so thats the way to go[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

thnx all
will check min spec for HL2/CS:S
since I've only got a 1.6GHz with half a gig of ram... on a dell (with good battery) laptop!
just checked on steampowered.com and can't find the Bronze package, only...
Source Premier Pack $59.95
Valve Complete Pack $79.95
also, just downloaded steam... will take a for a test drive later0 -
ericthekidstoner,
Unless you have the Dell with the ATi graphics option added - I very much doubt that your laptop will be able to play HL2 or any of the other games which use the HL2 engine (definately not BF2 either).
Even if you do have the ATi graphics option - you may need to heavily restrict the graphics quality in order to make it playable.
FYI - Steam is Valve's content delivery system and can be used to purchase and download games and thier updates as they are released (so no more having to hunt around when a patch is released).
