HUsband facing redundancy

Hello

My husband is facing redundancy and im worried sick.

My husband has only been in this job for a year, there is no more work on the books, and has been told to expect it (this is unofficially).

He has never been out of work before so we dont know what to do. what we are entitled to etc.
I work part time (17 hours per week), but there is no chance of extra hours.

Does anyone know where I can start to at least have a look as to what we are entitled to?

Ive been up all night worried about this, and im going into hosipital this morning for an operation.

My husband is very cool and calm about it all, and thinks he wont be unemployed for a long time, he isnt fussy about what he will do as long as he does something, but, im not so sure that it will be so easy for him to get another job.

Hi if your husband is out of work he can claim Job Seekers allowance based on his National Insurance contirbutions. As you are wroking over 16 hours you may be able to claim working Tax Credit if you have children. If not then you will be able to claim housing benefit if you rent and council tax benefit. If you have a mortgage you will not be able to get any help as you work over 16 hours and will not be eligible for Income support. You should in this case talk to your mortgage lender as there are now many schemes in place to prevent lendesr from repossessing properties and helping people to retain their homes.

You should also check to see if you have payment protection insurance on any loans or creit cards as these are often addedd without you realising.

You may also be able to get another part time job to fit in with current hours

    Plenty of info here http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/index.htm

He may need to start looking at agency work and remember that some larger employers advertise for staff on their websites, not necessarily in the newspapers.
