Autumn Bliss Raspberries - Too Late To Plant???

Hey Guys!

This is my first post on MSE Forums, but have been an avid moneysaver for a good few years!

Anywho... We've just finally been offered a half plot allotment down the road by our local council! Yay! We only had to wait a couple of months, which we're amazed about. (Sorry to those who have been waiting ages :()

I am really interested in growing lots of soft fruit bushes, especially Raspberries.

I'm just wondering whether it is too late to plant Autumn Bliss raspberry canes, as we're in May now??? I've heard that if I plant now, this will stunt my plants growth? Is this true?

I would appreciate anyone's advice if possible!
Thanks in advance!

It's not ideal, but plants are very adaptable.
If you buy them in pots, which presumeably you are, they say you can plant them anytime. Get the plants first.
They won't grow as well this year as they would have done if planted earlier, but next year they should be off to a flying start.
They do need a good weed free plot though, so if you haven't got one ready, it may be better to get a perfect plot ready and buy bare rooted ones as soon as you can later in the year. I think the difference between the two crops next year would be tiny.
I put weed barriers under the soil round my raspberries, as they really don't want their roots disturbed.

I am just about to plant out my raspberry canes. Can I ask what a weed barrier is?

Just a physical barrier to stop the weed roots coming through into the raspberry bed. I use all kinds of non rotting stuff. Plastic, metal, concrete. Whatever I can find.

I got pot grown Autum Bliss this time last year and had reasonable amount of fruit off it later on, hoping to get more off it this year now it's had time to settle in.

Ditto boultdj, tow pot grown plants, I had about a 2 dozen raspberries or so last year, this year the canes are storming away, so have high hopes
