Headlight failure whilst driving

Glad to see I didn't just get flamed and told to 'learn to drive'
Seems like there's no definitive answer other than to pull over at the side of the road and repair. As Cyclonebri says though if you're stuck at the side of the road in the dark this can be pretty hard to do.
Some good answers though so far. Thanks everyone
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
Halfords fitting a bulb, car doesn't start after - coincidence? I think not!I took mine to halfords to have one replaced, don't know what happend but the car wouldn't start after the lad had finished. Had to get recovered by breakdown truck. Just coincidence I'm sure!
If changing a bulb in the dark and you don't have a torch, a possibility is to leave your sidelights on and try extract the bulb, this can then be used to illuminate the area.0 -
Just continue to your destination. Then replace bulb as soon as possible. If it is dark, it will be unlikely you'd find any garage open. So, you need to continue your journey with one headlamp. If it is daytime, it hardly matters
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
Just stick the other headlight on full beam - that's what people round here do, anyway

As for the breakdown thing, I'd certainly call the AA out for it...sure, it's not a "breakdown" as such, but so what? I pay for a service and I'm going to use it - if some poor family are stranded by the roadside, that's the AA's fault for not having enough vans, not mine for wanting them to fix my car for me. I'd also call them to change a wheel or fix my locks, if needs be. I'm not going to put myself in harm's way on the hard shoulder, or risk damaging my car - when I pay someone *specifically* so that I don't have to...Talk about having a dog and barking yourself...0
