Ah, but you could run the country's finances.

    Apparently.

I hope this is balanced - looked at some "big guns"....

    Law:
    Clarke (Cambridge), Darling (Aberdeen)

    History:
    Osborne (Oxford), Brown (Edinburgh)

    PPE (Philosophy, Politics, Economics):
Cameron (Oxford), Mandelson (Oxford), Balls (Oxford)

    Social Anthropology:
    Clegg (Cambridge)

    Natural Sciences & Economics:
    Cable (Cambridge)

A good point. Would you entrust a 39 year-old history graduate with no financial qualifications or experience whatsoever to run any large company, let alone our country's finances?

    It's bloody ludicrous.

Would you entrust a 43 year old lawyer, with a second class Oxford degree, who married a dodgy actors daughter and played guitar in an obscure band to run the country?

It's not the history degree from Oxford per se that I have an objection to - after all, I have one myself.

It's the lack of post-degree qualification/experience that really concerns me.

Just having noted the three PPEists above, I found this fascinating list, by the way:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notable_people_with_PPE_degrees_from_Oxford

William Hague, Aung Sang Suu Kyi, Benazir Bhutto, Lord Bath, Ann Widdecombe, Chris Huhne, David Miliband, Ed Miliband, David Dimbleby, Ted Heath, David Willetts, Evan Davis, Hugh Gaistkell, John Sargeant, Michael Foot, Nick Robinson.... oh the list goes on and on!!

Fair point. I have to say it does seem pretty damned difficult to find any politicians with experience in the real world.

You forgot to add..... who sent large numbers of young brits, under-equipped to survive, to their early deaths in unwanted and unwarranted warfare; who shafted the country but who went on to ruthlessly line their own pocket and now has the audacity to wear a crucifix under their shirt.

That's because none of them live in it.
