How can you find out the account details of a transaction?

I transferred some savings from a halifax account to an Abbey account via a halifax branch late last year. I know the transfer was successful because I have since seen the money in my Abbey account. The problem is the passbook to the account has since gone missing and asking in the branch just leads to them to say there is no account in my name having the right amount in it. I do have a feeling there should be another account but it is not on their screen- they do have some of my accounts though so it is not as if they don't have me on record. The only thing that comes to mind is that the details for this particular account were wrong so it is not coming up on my profile. I asked the halifax to do a trace on the transaction and all they could come up with the transaction code b365. Abbey needs the roll number and because it is only in the lost passbook I have no idea what it is.
My first question is how can a get the Halifax to find the roll number of the account where the money has gone?
If that isn't possible how can I get the Abbey to find what account it went into?
I need this money urgently to pay some bills so this needs to be resolved as quickly as possible.
Many thanks in advance

Should be able to get details of where the payment went to from Halifax fairly easily.
If you have online banking, then find the payment on there (it's under Payments, Direct Debits and Standing Orders on the left hand menu), and the reference should be the Santander roll number.
Or, in a branch or on the phone, it works in the same way: they'll be able to find the payment instruction, and again, the reference field should correspond to your roll number.
You are looking for a payment to a sort code that starts with '09'.0 -
When doing a Probate a couple of years ago I finished with dozens of account statements - for Abbey and Halifax- going back many years, but where I couldn't fully audit trail where the money had gone to. Out of that I identified that Abbey group accounts under 'surname / christian name' whereas Halifax use a unique identifier.
So if the Abbey account doesn't group with your other accounts ..... then it should be that the surname / initial for that account was different? And trying to get them to do a 'fuzzy' match will be virtually impossible. But if you know the precise value / date of credit ....... they should be able to do a trace on that using their value list for that day.
Failing that ... you can only ask Halifax to do a more precise trace? It may be something to do with it being done from Branch ..... but I would expect them to be able to provide the receiving sort code and account / roll number. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Was the mystery account opened as an Abbey account or was it a Bradford & Bingley account originally? If so were you issued with an Abbey / Santander passbook to replace the original one?0

Thanks for you replies so far. In answer to your question alang, no it was always an Abbey account. I don't have internet banking to look it up either- always just used branch. There was another thing when the Halifax tried to track the payment- they said I hadn't done it in branch but over the telephone. Now I have never used telephone banking so that just confused me. Is it possible that they have the wrong transaction for the transfer?
Thanks
