Damage to property during delivery bought items

Hi - can anyone help?? I ordered at wood-burning stove and the delivery guy made a big deal about coming into the house. He said he wasn't allowed to enter the house - but he wasn't going to leave the stove on our front door step either! I asked him to bring item into the house and in the process he scratched our (practically new) wooden floor in the hallway. Do I have any rights re: claiming for this damage caused during delivery?? He kind of covered himself by asking whether or not I was happy for him to enter our house to deliver. He expected a man to be here in the middle of the day to help him carry the stove in - but neither the company we bought this item from nor the delivery firm had requested this prior to delivery. Do we have any comeback???
Thanks!

oh nightmare chick xx it's worth giving the company a ring or check out any policies they have on their website or delivery documents you would of had.

So he wanted to drop it at the door and you twisted his arm to bring it in?
  • He may have taken slight pity as I had a couple of small children running around....

OP, I think you have to take the hit on this I'm afraid. Clearly he was only contracted to deliver to the door and you persuaded him to carry it into your house, therefore taking on the responsibility from that point onwards.
