Pet Insurance - does it cover Euthansia?

We had to have our dear old (13 years) cat put to sleep at the weekend, his heart had had enough. I know I had to go in emergency time but the bill was just over £170! Lucky that he'd been a healthy cat, I think we'd only taken him to the vets once before 10 years ago, as we'd never had him insured.
We'd like to get another cat and, this time, I will take out pet insurance but can anyone tell me (blimey, sorry to ask such a morbid question), but is euthanasia covered under pet insurance?
Cheers, Birdy
NB I know I've spelt euthanasia wrong in the title but I can't change it!

it often is, but you would have to check the individual policy to be sure.
Sorry to hear about your cat.0 -
I am sorry about your loss. i recently had my 15 year old cat PTS and we were covered for the first £100 of euthenasia. i had him euthanised at home too, and the vet stated on the claim form that a home visit was necessary so that was paid out for too.0

Most insurance companies will NOT cover euthanasia or cremation. Some will pay out purchase price in younger animals but not in a 10 year old plus. I would be interested in knowing who Lowis's insurance company was. The reasoning behind this is that all pets (and people) die so it would an inevitable expense for any insurance company. Human life assurance polices tend to have an upper age limit.0

i am with Axa - i have just looked at Timmy's final bill - which totalled over £450 for some check-ups, treatment he had plus eventually the home visit for being PTS and the attended cremation - AXA basically covered everything except £35 - and that was close to the the cost of actual injection (in fact the injection was £42 plus VAT). So I am not entirely sure what the £35 was that they didn't cover - I assumed it was for attending the cremation as the individual cremation was £80 and the extra cost of attending was £50 - and cremation is covered up to £100.0

So sorry to hear of your loss.
We are with M&S and last year had to have our beloved Weimaraner put to sleep
and his euthanasia and cremation was covered.
