iPod Touch Repair

Options
I have a water damaged 1st generation iPod Touch sat on my desk wasting space and reminding me how stupid I was to ever use it while I was in the bath. So, a couple of questions:

Are water damaged iPod Touches (or iPhones) ever repairable? I don't know what bit of mine is dead - pressing buttons does nothing and the screen stays off.

Does anyone know of a decent place to send it for repair? Preferably one they've used and know is trustworthy.

How much does it usually cost to repair something like an iPod Touch? I know I'm asking "how long is a piece of string?", but what's the ballpark figure?

Is it worth trying to get it repaired at all? My girlfriend's 16GB Nano works just fine.

The usual advice is that an attempt to get it working is better than not bothereing, so here's what I was told to do with a mobile that had been immersed:-

    1. Don't try to turn it on.

    2. Put it in a sealed box with some uncooked rice, I'd leave it for a few days (you could also use silica gel if you've any sachets from anything you've bought). The theory is that the rice will absorb any moisture.

Could try the apple store for a repair if that doesn't work, but I'd suspect that it would not be worth the cost? Do you have home contents insurance? If you have, it might be worth a claim, depending on your excess?

I've used 'totalconsolerepair' just google it. Very good.

My wife water damaged hers and I tried to fix myself with parts from ebay, it's do-able but very fiddly, especially breaking the seal between the screen and main unit. In the end I just sent it away!!!!
:T If you don't have anything sensible to say, don't say it! :T
