Occasional Dirt Cheap TV's Dixons & Currys
Comments

it was about 6 months ago, before I used these forums but the mass of crt tvs were being cleared out. I got a 36" £1200 tv for £80, £120 inc 5 years cover and a £800 jvc tv for £60, £100 inc 5 years cover. Both are brilliant and still using them today. Saying that it was mainly because I worked there so could spy the bargains before everyone else.0

Please believe me snk when I say you were extremely fortunate and in a miniscule minority, DSG's behaviour on items like this now is grotesque.0

Couldnt agree more with the most of the OP DSG are dire. I have not bought from them in many many years. Its true what they say about the sales assitants. I will give you one example. Many years ago I went into dixons in Queensway(now gone btw) and asked about the nokia 3310. "oh" the person says "we havent got them in stock" "But your advertising them" I said. "Yes but there not in stock we have the 3210 though" "No" I said "I didnt ask for the 3210 I am after the new 3310 Model" Well there not in stock. So I say "are you not even going to check when they will be in stock". "no you will have to come back next week and try again as no one knows when there coming".
Up that I thought and never shopped at DSG ever again0 -

fifo wrote:Hi Gerret,
I am afraid you are making far more assumptions than me here !
I don't assume anything, I don't think I am superior. I do talk to the assistants with respect. But if you do a straw poll about customer service in a variety of chain stores, I think you will find that the average shopper would rate Currys / Dixons staff as some of the worst on the high street. Indeed have a look around these forums and you'll probably find they are the most complained about retailer.
In store assistants are there precisely for people who don't do their research. That's one of the reasons that internet shopping is cheaper.
But on the high street, some Currys/Dixons staff are really worse than other chains. Not takign no for an anwer on an extended guarantee for a 10 toaster/kettle. Blantantly lying or making an answer up instead of just taking a moment to check. Blantantly lying about consumer law, rights, etc. Simply having a CantBeArsed attitude.
And it really says something when as an occasional customer you have to show a Currys / Dixons assistant how to operate the Eclipse system which they sit in front of all day and can't be bothered to learn ! Many times I have been faced with an assistant who does not know how to do a stock check, an area search for a nearer store simply by changing the LDC option, the correct words to use to do an effective wildcard search, check the variants for a special offer
They are shocked when you show them how "Do you work for Dixons" ? No I simply watched how your colleague did it once ... (but you don't say if I can learn how to do it in moments, how come you won't spend five minutes when it is quiet and boring to do it when it's your job, instead of texting your mates, as that would be being rude and superior. !)
There are some good Currys/Dixons staff, but they are heavily outnumbered but the very bad ones
And this will continue to be so as long as they rely on a high turnover of poorly trained, poorly paid part time staff, who have to rely on bonuses rather than a flat fee which affects the way they interact with customers, forced to "upsell" accessories, rather than being "straight" like say Carphone Warehouse staff, are "biased" because of what their managers are forcing them to do. The bad bits of currys/dixons come straight from the top, and the good people (like you for example) are hampered by this.
I am always polite, and expect the best, but nobody who has ever shopped on the high street, that in comparison with other chains, currys/dixons have a reputation as having some of the poorest staff and customer service.
awful company -
I agree with you re: Dixons.....bought a washing from their online site and received an email to confirm the delivery date of Sunday 16/7....rang their depot several times but couldnt get through and their customer services were very unhelpful.....eventually after 5 hours and 20 calls i got through to the depot. ......the depot worker said that my order wasnt on their list and quite frankly couldnt give a damn and said it would be delivered on thurs 20/7.......i was fuming as i missed a trip with my family to London.......so i rang customer services next day and told cust services i couldnt care less either and cancelled the order.......to show their incomptence, dixons delivered my washing machine on thur 20/7...sent them packing, they had made a specific journey too - wasted 120 roundtrip for 2 workers....good!Stevie Coppell's record breaking blue and white royal army - championship winners 2005-60 -
Love stories like that :Troyalsteve wrote:they had made a specific journey too - wasted 120 roundtrip for 2 workers....good!
Oh and I remember one where someone was repeatedly getting called (unsolicited phone calls) asking if they wanted a kitchen. They agreed, a woman came to their house, printed off a forum discussion on the company giving unwanted phone calls to people - and the story ended the woman who turned up got rather nasty and well not happy.
So this is the way to treat companies that mess you about
they waste your time waste theirs

I'm looking for a HDTV ready television (anything from 15 inch to 19 inch) to reap the benefits from my xbox 360 games but I can't seem to find anything reasonably priced anywhere online or in the shops. I'm looking to pay between £200 and £300. Can anyone help?0

If you're looking for HD you often get what you pay for. The cheaper sets will have poor resolution (i.e. they may have a HD input, but will not display it full resolution). Ideally you need a full resolution HD set and it will be at least double your budget.Deanomfc wrote:I'm looking for a HDTV ready television (anything from 15 inch to 19 inch) to reap the benefits from my xbox 360 games but I can't seem to find anything reasonably priced anywhere online or in the shops.
