There's no harm to come from walking up and down stairs for hours. Bear in mind that many people actually pay gym memberships to do the equivalent of this in order to be fit and extend their lives
really,so all the staff in RM with medical problems caused by this should actually owe RM money for savings on gym fees?
going up and down stairs with a weight on one side of your body at pace does cause issues
a step machine in a gym is low impact0 -

Sorry, I think I hit a raw nerve. I didn't mean that there weren't problems with RM Health and Safety issues re loads and the negative effect that this might have for some people. The point is that "hard work never killed anyone" has an element of truthAwaiting a new sig0 -

And I bet that was some pen pushing beaurocrat that came up with that one. Try telling it too a miner.:(I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

You can pick examples at either extreme. A lazy couch potato on benefits is more likely to die early than an average worker. Then you have the shift workers and hard labour workers at the other end who also suffer poor mortality rates.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Don't know the source but it was oft quoted by my father who was a shift process worker, cycled to work and was always quite fit as a result. Poor working practices cause the harm not physical effortAwaiting a new sig0 -

the raw nerve is that i have seen guys in their 40/50's recently who are having real career ending problems
RM is not the business to have health problems and expect support
hard work never killed anyone is a line touted by RM management0 -

Not even a postie but I completely agree, posties were not even given rucksack type bags which would distribute the weight evenly. I suspect it was many years after certain damage had been done to the health of posties that the health aspect was looked at. These issues would have been the same in any job where physical activity was required though.
Just to be pedantic though, both walking up stairs and step machines are low impact - low impact means any movement where one foot is always on the ground, ie. not jumping. Unless posties have had instruction to run up flights of stairs that is.0 -
"Hard work never killed anyone is a line touted by RM management"
And something my grandad always told me. When he was a postie. And no, he wasn't management. And my other grandad - who wasn't a postie. And a bunch of other people who weren't posties. Farm workers. Military. Police. Firemen. The point stands.
We know you've got a chip on your shoulder, custardy - we got the message. This is a forum for discussion - not browbeating people. Can you ease up a little?0 -
