I hope you understand when I commented on,"hard work never killed anyone".
Well probably it didn't. But the constant physical effort required to hold that sort of job will do, either directly as a result of physical complications or shortly later, after a working life time of excess.
Sorry, it's my view.
Why are folks dying older?.
Because of the improvements in care, healthcare, and the reduction of high demand physical occupations:mad:
Research has shown that life expectancy has increased with improved living conditions(affluence, healthcare, nutrition, housing etc) but may have peaked with those born in the 40s/50s/60s. Later generations may become more susceptible to early death due to less active jobs/lifestyles and poorer nutrition (convenience food/fast food/alchohol consumption)Awaiting a new sig0 -
Im expecting to work to 70,or maybe beyond
it was a stupid rule that women (who generally live longer) got their pension 5 years before men
I quite liked the idea made up for having to put up with menNeeding to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans0 -
With the increased pension age I really hope that we can look forward to employment to cover that time. It seems a big call at the moment.
My friends son has bought a tiny house for £195k with a pre tax income of about £30 k between him and his partner. Currently a thousand a month for 40 years.I can`t see the debt being inflated away as things are. How would they stand to making decent pension contributions?0 -
These changes have not occured now. They were first announced over 15 years ago.
Thats a shame but it was an incorrect assumption.
15 year is not exactly overnight. Think yourself lucky your state pension age is 65. Mine is 67.
Mainly because it was announced 15 years ago and is a consequence of wanting equality.
Again, not overnight but over 15 years. Just as the increase from 65 to 68 is occurring over the next 34 years.
Dunstonh, Hi. How do you separate quotes like that with the green background??;)0 -
I am 55 years old. I have been advised that I cannot now draw my state Pension until I am close to 65 years old. All my working life I have been lead to believe that I will get my state Pension at the age of 60. It seems that, over night, I have lost 5 years of state pension which amounts to around £30,000. I cannot understand why more women my age are not up in arms about this??!! Particularly, as the wait to collect my Pension has doubled from 5 to 10 years overnight!!!!
Its as unfair to you as a woman as it is to a man who had to work to 65 and the fairer sex could at one time get their pension at 60.
I am surprised more men were not up in arms about that!0 -

Yes, I stopped paying NI at 60 even thought I was still working at the time.
I think you'll find the correct answer would be that you are not liable to pay NIC's from the age at which you are eligible to draw the state pension, anything from 60 upwards according to your gender, DOB etc.0 -

Not sure that that is entirely correct. I stopped paying NIC's at the age of 60 yet my state pension age is is 65.0
