Money in a suspense account - how do I get it back??

Last Friday I did online banking and accidentally transferred £500 from my current account into a credit card account I no longer have. The money has gone from the current account, however as the credit card is no longer active the money is nowhere. Both are with RBS. I've spoken on the phone to the credit card account but feel I'm getting nowhere. I've gone into the branch but they say its down to the credit card side of their business. I've been told the money is in a suspense account. People have promised to ring me back but they don't What should I do now? Is it a case of getting in touch with the ombudsman?

The FOS will ignore you until you go through the banks complain process so there would be no point going to them now.
If you want to complain

Also, its only been 2 working days since the transaction so I wouldn't expect it to even return until Monday anyway. The money will need to go through BACS twice.0 -
The above is true, infact i had the very same thing happen to me and it took a whole 10 working days before the funds came back to me. Can be a costly mistake to make if you cant afford to lose that sort of money for a few weeks.0

Thanks for the advice. We had a phone call today saying it will be back with us within 3 to 5 working days - keeping our fingers crossed!!!0
