help: blown wall socket!

I really hope someone can help me with this as don't know what I did wrong, what to do now and would like to avoid expense of an electrician
I plugged a device (electrical mouse repellant thing) in via a 4 way extension lead. It blew so I changed the fuse in the extension. Didn't work so then I also replaced the fuse in the extension plug. Seemed to work so I assumed problem had been the plug and put back the original fuse in the extension. When I plugged it into the wall socket there was a big bang and now the on/off switch for the wall socket won't move properly in either direction. The wall socket is a double one and the other part of it seems to be working fine. I used 13amp fuses in the plug and extension. No other devices were connected apart from the extension and mouse repellant thing so I can't have overloaded it.
Is this something I can fix myself with a screwdriver or should I call an electrician.
I'd be really, really grateful for any advice, suggestions from anyone who knows about these things.

I suspect you need to replace the socket, not a big job, but it would also be worth having somebody checkout what has gone wrong. Given what has happened so far I would get an electrician in, or somebody with good electrical knowledge.0
