He called O2 to suspend his £45 a month phone contract before he left and was told he'd need a signed letter on headed paper from his commanding officer. His commanding officer didn't have time to write the letter so Beth and her partner had to carry on paying every month.he has no choice he has to go as they have no other postings in UK for Lcpl's!!! (The army couldn't run a brewery)
No space for Lance Jacks in his trade more like!0 -
A letter could have been easily drafted and signed by a Sqn OC or 2IC but I dont see why it should be the job of the SPS staff as the previous poster stated, yes its a clerky thing with the typing and all but it is also personal admin on the soldiers behalf. Yes they could help them but its not there job to draft it, get it signed and post it off.0

Whatever happens with trying to cancel the contract - and best of luck with that - I would think carefully about the previously posted suggestion that your fiance should use his UK mobile phone abroad to keep in touch with you; he may well find that he is charged at international call rates, and should check with his provider. Generally speaking it might be cheaper to take out a new contract locally, or get a local PAYG SIM for his existing mobile.
Having seen the post from the Vodafone rep, hopefully he will be able to get the contract issue sorted.

I just wanted to say, i live in germany and actually only use my uk vodafone which is on an 18 month contract.
I ave vodafone passport so get charged 75p connection fee for calling and recieving calls then my montly minutes get used. Its also 11p to send texts. If you were to get a german sim its about 19cents to send a text so i am actually cheaper sticking with this.

Excuse me for being a tad unsympathetic, but is that not why you get disturbance allowance on moving....and LOA once you get there, or have they been stopped since I left.0

Hey
My Fiance is moving to Germany.he just got his new posting and will be going July this year basically he has no choice he has to go as they have no other postings in UK for Lcpl's!!! (The army couldn't run a brewery)
He took out a contract with Vodafone end of March. It is another line in my name!
Has anyone ever been in this situation, Would the company as a good gesture cancel the contract we would be willing to pay the hand set price!
Am sure with his posting letter from the army. then they should take it into consideration.
Thanks
Actually they do very well and if you look at his terms and conditions of service he is liable for service anywhere.
The fact is that he is very much at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to rank, once he has actually done a bit of time then he may have more luck at negotiating his future locations. The Army probably think they are doing him a favour in any case, most single soldiers would jump at the chance of an overseas tour0
