Totally agree with Newly retired and Margaret Clare, my Dad has been in a care home for 3 months now, we are in the process of selling his house. He has some savings to pay for a few years care (god willing), but when his house is sold the interest from the sale will help with his care costs, without eating into the capital too much! This has enabled us to find a lovely home for him - after much searching. He feels happy and secure and has no worries about his house. I feel that it is his money and should be used to make sure he is in the best home possible - anything left to inherit is just a bonus and not an expectation.0

We seem to be in agreement that parents should use their own assets and property to finance the best possible care for themselves.
It is far more important to have a comfortable last few years than to be worrying about children getting their cut. If there's anything left, all well and good: if not - tough!
BTW: I pay enough tax, I don't want it to go on keeping someone, who has deliberately deprived themselves of assets.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
