help, our puppy is mad

we have a lovely 13 week puppy and its going a bit mad, it will go for a lovely long walk then wee the minute it gets in, whilst nothing produced on the walk, it bites weverything despite having loads of chews and toys and it goes mad if we have any visitors, any puppy training tips please as the nearest dog training classes are 20 miles away and we have a 5year old and 16month old who we would have to take too, so any ideas would be wonderful, thanks.

  • I can't offer you any help there, but i can sympathise. My puppy is 9 weeks old and can't go out for weeks. When i am in the room with him he goes outside to the loo, but as soon as i leave him alone he pees on the carpet, even if the door is open. I think he just does it to protest at being left alone! I'd forgotten what hard work puppies can be. And i would also be interested in any advice!

;)make sure all previous trace of wee have been removed dogs love to wee were others or themselves have been before.their sense of smell is very strong.
;)mop up wee with kitchen paper place paper in plastic bag, drop in selected area on the walk, puppy will perform on or near the spot.place soilded paper in bin.
the puppy needs lots of praise when it does perform, NO use smacking once its done wrong,
as it wont know what is being smacked for,
Mustard smeared on the objects most likely to be chewed seems to work well, the pup is teething so will try most items, toys with hollows in which you then place food in keeps them occupied,
vistors should ignore the puppy as you should even if its jumping and barking etc they soon learn bad behaviour gets them ignored.Good gets love and tit bits etc. Enjoy your puppy.PS What type is it?

When our puppy chewed my kitchen chair legs to death, my neighbour said to put drops of essential oils on the wood. This worked a treat ( used lavender, but i think anything would do!). my puppy hates strong smells of anything ( except other dog's wee!). I think there's a spray you can also buy, specially to deter the chewing.

my terriers/terrors are Jack Russells called Bonnie/Clyde and live upto the name ,House training them was a nightmare but 10 years later they still rule the roost and the lane and the village!
When they get to 12years old they do become quieter.

thanks for that wonderful messagge of hope, this Dog is lovely just mad and so naughty its a nightmare, and she knows the buttons to push to get a reaction, such as eating the toys in her path, and then showing you how well they have been destroyed!!!!!

she doesnt really yap that much, as there is always more or less someone here to keep her company, she is getting better at house training as now able to go out more, very energetic and eager to be loved, just a bit nippy when you smooth her, and mouthing everything, any ideas to encourage her to lose the biting lark?
