Argus / cartrawler - WARNING

I visited Tenerife in March and was ripped off my Argus Car Hire. Paid in advance a deposit of 14 Euros and when I arrived the Car Hire Company (RECORD) were operating out of a Bus Shelter.
They told me that the cost to hire a Ford Focus for a week was 130 Euro and had NOT been paid anything by Argus and told me to wait in-line or !!!!-off.

I hired a car in the Main Terminal without any hassle from Auto-Reisen for 120 Euros and with full tank return which is much, much cheaper.

Wish I had read reports about Argus before I paid - Be Warned they are rip-off merchants.

I have to agree Argus are not good. Hired a car for 2 days in turkey arrived and was met by a rough looking guy...... was a clio with a boot....... had a few dents on it etc.... i had to make sure he wrote them down.... then i had to pay to leave the car park where he met us....... the fuel level was all over the place up then down then back up again.

Upon returning it at the agreed time nobody was there i almost missed the flight and becuase the fuel level was all over the place it was a little down by maybe 1mm max they where going to charge something like £20 i gave the guy £10 and told him to p**s off.

Wrote them a nasty email and they passed me on to the agent who agreed to refund but wanted bank account numbers and sort codes etc.

    Fail!

  • Dear Tomlewis007,

Thank you for your recent comments regarding your experience with Argus Car Rental whilst renting a vehicle in Dalaman Airport in Turkey last November. We are sorry to hear your opinion of Argus Car Rental remains negative, despite a speedy resolution, shortly after your rental ended.

Indeed, we contacted the car rental agent, ErboyCar, who agreed to process a refund as the condition of the vehicle you received did not meet our quality standards. As the car rental agent had to process the refund, they needed your accounts details. As an account number and sort code can only be used to lodge money into an account, their request for these details were therefore perfectly valid. If you tried to access your account information either by phone or online, you would be asked a series of verifying questions and PIN codes. We hope you found a solution with ErboyCar and were refunded; if that was not the case, please feel free to contact us again and we would be happy to help to ensure you receive the refund due.

Thanks to feedback such as yours, we have worked with ErboyCar to ensure the service and vehicle quality they provide corresponds to our standards. The issue you experienced should therefore not happen again as ErboyCar have upgraded their vehicle fleet.

Mr. Lewis, we are very sorry your experience with Argus Car Rental did not meet your expectations. We understand your disappointment and hope the response above has helped improve your opinion of the service we provide our customers.

    Kind regards,

    Argus Customer Care Team

    Dear travellerboy,

Thank you for your recent feedback regarding your rental in Tenerife last March – we value feedback such as yours as it allows us to continue improve our products and services. We are sorry to hear your experience with Argus Car Hire and Record did not meet your expectations.

We were unfortunately unable to find your booking as you did not include specific details regarding your rental in your post. Although we have cross referenced all bookings picked –up in March in Tenerife for Record Rent a Car, with a €14 deposit, we could not identify your booking with certainty. We are therefore unable to make specific comments regarding your experience or booking conditions.

We have a very good relationship with Record Rent a Car, as they provide a consistently good service to our customers; indeed their complaint per booking ratio is exceptionally low. We however continue to work with them, as with all our car rental agents, to continue improve their practices and fleet quality.

We would be grateful if you could provide us with specific references or contact us with your complaint. We would be delighted to look into this for you (please see link to customer support in our signature).

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,

I have already reported my compliants to you before I inform everyone of your behaviour. Don't try to fool anybody, You take the money and give nothing in return.

Record are a Good Hire Company, Says who??
They operate out a Bus Shelter on the cheap with NO customer care whatsoever.

Don't bother to reply, anyone with any sense will give your Company a wide berth.

    I agree with the sentiment.

I used them over the 'volcano' period to get me out of a fix, and on their advice, changed my car type. When I went to pick it up, it was too small, despite what they had advised on the phone to me, and I was charged considerably more by the Hire Co for an upgrade.

I have tried their cust service, to have the complaint acknowledged and ignored (well over a month ago now), and I have faxed the CEO in Dublin, also ignored.

    DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.
