You mention a landlord. Have you checked your tenancy agreement. Is the electricity definately listed as payable separately by you? It could be that the electric is included as part of the rent because the electricity has not been split down between the individual flats. That does happen, and sometimes is done deliberately.

    If not ...

Are any of the four meters listed as residential (01 or 02 profiles/top lines) or all they all listed as business (03 or higher profiles)? on the central ecoes database?

    There are two scenarios.

    (1) Your electrity supply has a perfectly valid meter and cables, linked directly into the distribution network, which has never been registered with a supplier for whatever reason. Or is registered but the supplier has never billed you.

    (2) Or you have cables and those are actually part of someone else's supply, so someone else in the building is actually paying for your electricity.

If it's scenario (1) then you are very unlikely to get a historic bill, or if you do, then it would probably only for a maximum of six months backwards, due to the billing code.

If it's scenario (2) then it depends what happens when the problem is discovered. Assuming it is. Could be a while. Even so, they may not get around to chasing you for it.

I'd ask the landlord if you want to be honest.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

thanks. the numbers on the meters (i'm guessing it's the serial number as it's on the actual meter as well) starts with D03A- is that the bit you mean? in this case it looks like 03, which is busines right?

I am going to double check my tenancy agreement. I have a strong feeling that this is scenario 1 we're talking about and the supplier has simply never billed me (or anyone- as I've never seen any bills for any of the flats in the property. But all four meters do come up on ecoes with a suppliers name.

I also feel like I should do the honest thing and talk to the landlord. I know as a tenent I'm responsible for utilities, but wouldn't you also say it's up to the landlord to register his properties first? i was never given any meter readings or supplier info when i moved in and in fact the old tennant said he thought it might be included in the rent (i have a hunch it's no that simple though)
