Mortgage Help while on Maternity Leave

I can just about afford all my bills when I am working (with the help of tax credits) and just wondered when I go on maternity leave for 9 months if I will get any help with my mortgage as I won't be able to afford it until I go back to work.

By the time I go on maternity leave, I doubt partner will be around.

At the moment, he is a stay at home dad, but I'm planning on going back to work only 3 days a week after maternity, so everything will have to be paid for by me. Want all our finances to be separate by the time the baby comes along.

No savings. They all went last time I was on maternity leave.

The Shelter website has information for homeowners who are struggling with their mortgages.

    Thanks for the information guys.

I only get SMP as that is what I got with my first one. Bf was made redundant while I was on maternity leave and our savings were sucked dry!

I will have to keep trying to get through to the CAB (they are impossible to get through to!).

Can see bf being awkward about getting a job or going on jsa by the time my maternity comes. I can cope when I go back to work by doing by myself (provided that bf or my mum looks after the children for the 3 days - I figure that if I am looking after the children 4 days and during the evenings and nights, it's not too unreasonable to ask bf to mind them 3 days, but I'm sure he and people on here will think differently).

As a last resort, I could take a year's holiday from the mortgage and start up again once I go back to work I suppose.

Your mortgage provider may not allow a year without payments so you will need to check - some give 3 months.

If you are getting SMP then you will be over the limit for IS so will not qualify for help with the mortgage.

Heh, heh - Have I misread this or is your boyfriend as reluctant to look after his children as he is to get a job?!! If he's not a stay at home job or a job seeker, is he sick or disabled ...
