Tesco Supermarket Prices V Tesco Express

I have noticed that Tesco Express stores charge more than Tesco Supermarkets, here are some examples

Pepsi 500ml - Tesco Supermarket (39p) - Tesco Express (41p)
Smirnoff 70cl - Tesco Supermarket (£2.99) - Tesco Express (£3.10)

Anyone else noticed this?

Tesco charge different prices in different areas depending on local competition unlike morrisons whose prices are the same in every store

Prices for each type of Tesco store (Superstore, Metro, Express) are set nationally: in essence, all Tesco stores charge the same basic price for each product, but a premium is added to prices in the smaller store formats to reflect their higher operating costs

That is not correct. Tesco operate a national pricing policy. Express stores have a seperate pricing structure, as has been mentioned due to the higher operational costs. This also applies to a small number of Metro stores where running costs are prohibative (eg London Oxford Street).

Which obviously worked a treat for Tesco as the London Oxford Street store closed down some time ago and is now a Waterstones. :)
  • I think Marks & Spencer Simply Food is also slightly more expensive for some things than the main stores.
