Ah! Norman Lamont. Maggie didn't like him, but allowed him to do his job. She quickly dumped him after this debacle. So all Tories are bad eh?

Not like the Labour lot then? They support each other through any argument, no matter how daft the case.

Did she now? That's funny because in my recollection she'd resigned and been replaced by John Major two years before this debacle occured. Lamont was Major's replacement as chancellor, so he never served in that post under Maggie.

Yes, you're right. I was thinking of Nigel Lawson, wasn't I? Now If I were Labour I would argue that I was right anyway ... because ... because, etc.

Nah, it's the Tory posters who have been making lots of errors of historic fact recently. Usually when trying to prove how sh*t Brown/Labours record is.

I suggest you watch my youtube example, after you have removed your rose tinted spectacles. There are plenty more examples as well.

I did watch it - what exactly is your beef here? That Labour introduced the minimum wage, which is probably much more than cleaning jobs would otherwise pay? That Labour introduced tax credits which should supplement this family's income, if they are claiming their entitlement? That Labour put cleaning contracts out to tender to get best value for taxpayer's money? Or that cleaning is not a very well-paid job?

I don't claim to know details of this family's finances, but I certainly know they're better off under Labour policies than the Tories, and don't see why Labour should have to apologize just because a little girl cried.

You seam to forget that that is quite minor in comparison with the current black hole in the finances.

The difference being, the tories were happy to tell people things were bad, while the current 'government' is too scared to say anything.

You are joking, if you think she would be any better off under a Tory govt you need to pull your head out of the sand.

At the end of the day, this fiasco stopped us entering the European Monetary Union, which prevented us turning out worse than Greece.

It has also to be remembered that Labour supported us going into the ERM... at a higher level.
