You cannot claim until the end of the academic term. This is usually around early June, but your university website will tell you the exact date.

If you are under 25 you will receive £51.85 per week. If you are 25 or over you will receive £65.45 per week.
    Gone ... or have I?

yes ditto what dmg stated, the JCP have a database with all the university start and end dates so will double check that you can start a claim when you say you can, so no point in doing it before then...

You can apply by phone ((0800 055 6688) or online (http://www.dwp.gov.uk/eservice/). I recommend applying by phone, as they will give you the appointment time straight away. Applying online takes a long time, as after applying, you need to wait a few days for the staff to call you to finish the form.

You will need to bring the following to the Job Centre (at the end of applying, they will tell you what to bring). This is what I needed to bring:
    • ID (passport, driving licence, or birth certificate)
    • bank statement
I also applied after finishing uni too, and the above is fine.
