My motherboard and processor and various other parts were fried by a power surge. I claimed on my insurance and so far it has taken 5 weeks and several phone calls just to get the PC collected by the insurance recommended repairer.
Prior to collection the repair agent called and said it would take about 2-3 weeks to be repaired!!! Now this sounds like a long time when you have waited 5 weeks for the thing just to be collected. Is this a fair amount of time for repairs to be done or are they just taking the p1$$ ?
As you can tell I am really quite annoyed by this, and to top it all when I get it back I have to pay £50.00 excess to the repairer. LOL.
Would you complain to the INS company?

I would complain yes.
I can remove a motherboard, refit a new one CPU cpu cooler memory (the correct way round)ect within 30-40 minutes depending on the cpu cooler complexity some of the high spec/performance ones are a pain.
reinistall of the operating system and drivers can take up to 2 hours if I dont have any of the driver disks and have to find them but it is normally easy.
The excess is normal if you make a claim you pay the excess. I would contact the insurance co and ask them to contact the repairer and see why things are taking so long. also ask if it is possiblt to get the pc repaired by a local company of your choice if you get a quote from them. you shouldnt be forced to use the company the insurance co says.0 -
I knew I would have to pay the excess, but 8 weeks to repair a PC!!!
I will call the INS tomorrow and tell them I'm not happy."Gort, klaatu barada nikto"

I agree, 5 weeks to collect the PC is too long. The 2 - 3 weeks to repair is probably down to work loads - where your machine is in the q - 'cos a strip down and rebuild + software should take no more than a day. There will of course be time required for bench testing to see if the rebuild is stable, but not 2 weeks!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

I don't think you can add the 5 and 2 to 3 weeks together. They are most likely two different departments if not companies. No doubt the actual repairs will be outsourced to an external company by your insurance provider. So their 2 to 3 week time frame seems reasonable to me, when you factor in that the insurance company will have gone for the cheapest and slowest option. I can't say I'd be happy with the wait but, I'd have to live with it.
If your PC has not been collected yet, you could ask if you can be given a loan PC while that one is repaired?
Also doesn't your PC have old for new policy? As surely if a power surge has fried your motherboard and CPU, they can't repair it anyway, all they can do is replace it. You could argue that means the entire PC not just parts. Check the terms and conditions of your policy. It may also state time frames in there of such services as I'd be most annoyed about the 5 weeks to get it resolved in what action is needed more than a 2 to 3 week refit. At least the PC being fixed actually involves some work compared to a phone operator deciding what action to authorise.
It can't hurt to try and complain about how long this is taking, and speak to management, if nothing else it might push your PC repair further up to the top of the list. As a total of 2 months is unacceptable, but it's your insurance company's problem, so don't take it out on the company thats fixing your PC. You paid your insurance company for the insurance so they are reasponisble for their outsourcing contracts so don't let them pass the blame on!
PS:If you don't usual complain or want some tips on complaining why not put a post in the Insurance Forum0
