housing benefit/council tax question - please help

myself and my partner have managed to get a moving in date for a private rental flat, we have done a benefits calculator online for housing benefit and council tax and based on our circumstances we are eligible for it.
we are moving in on Monday (17th May), can we apply for the housing benefit & council tax before then or do we have to wait til we are in?

You can go ahead and apply as long as you have all the paperwork for the tenancy etc, you just need to put 17th May down as the date the tenancy begins.Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind.They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness.
