Belling cooker broke just after 12 months

Hi all, I am just after a bit of advice please. I bought a Built in Belling cooker 20th march last year and picked it up from Currys around 10 days later when they had it in stock. So just over a year old and the oven has broken down.

The oven keeps blowing the fuse board. I rang Currys tonight and the lady said someone would contact me within 5 working days.

I know I may not have, but do I have any right at all? I honestly thought a new oven should last for more than 13 months.

You will have a right to a remedy (probably repair), providing you can prove that the fault is not down to misuse or general wear and tear.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Thanks for your help but can I ask how do I go about proving that it is not through misuse?

I've actually just remembered the lady I spoke to on the phone from Currys said that someone would get back to me within five working days and may then to told to get an independent report.

Will I have to pay for this report, if so how much? Does anyone know how long this process will take before I have an oven to use again?

Sorry for all the questions but I feel at a total loss knowing I cant just shove something in the oven to feed us at mealtimes.

You'd have to pay for the report, but if a fault is confirmed, you would get that cost back.

Once the report has been given, they have to repair without causing significant inconvenience to you; and I'd imagine for an oven, that would be within a few days at most.

In terms of the report you need to arrange for a service engineer to come out at your expense and diagnose (not fix) the problem. Ask them for a written report which you'll then pass on to the retailer. Try giving Belling a call or a local service engineer.

    Hi, just a quick update.

I contacted Belling the day after my first post. They were very understanding and arranged an engineer to come out and fix the problem free of charge. :j A bulb holder was the problem and was sorted our within 5 minutes.

I had the oven working again, before Currys telephoned us to say that we would have to get a report.

Massive big thanks to Belling for a brilliant service. Thanks to you all for your help.
