Sunflower Help Please!

My son proudly brought home a sunflower seedling he has grown from nursery today but he snapped its stem in the car! I promised him I would fix it but how do I do that? If I snap off the stem will it grow again or should I tie it to a tiny stick or something? How long would it take to grow a new one or can you buy them? I don't want to break his little heart by telling him it is dead!

I'm sorry but you're going to have to either get another one quick or break his little heart.

I am afraid I have to agree with conradmum, if you stick a sunflower seed in a wee pot and keep it somewhere warm it will sprout quite quickly, though I am not sure if it will happen fast enough to prevent breaking the bad news to your wee boy. I have never seen sunflower plants for sale but that's probably because they are so easy to grow from seed."To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill" Sun Tzu0

orrrrrrrrrrrrrr, you could tell him it is in sunflower hospital, getting better. This would buy you the time to grow a replacement?0

It's a goner. You'll need to swap for another one and tell him a white lie. Or tell him the truth and also that there's no Santa. Get it all out in the open...0 -

You might be lucky and get a replacement somewhere like homebase? Otherwise I might be tempted to buy something which looks similar, at that age would he know the difference?
Alternatively, and probably better for him in the long run, would be to let him grow some new ones. Get a 'special' pot and make him show you how he did it last time, pretend you don't know. Hopefully he will still feel that pride and forget about the accident.0
