Double Glazing Company Problem, consumer advice please

A friend of mine had some new windows installed.

Sadly they paid the company before the job was completed to their satisfaction and now there are problems.

There are various problems with windows and the problems are all pretty obvious to anyone looking at the windows by all accounts (I have not seen the current state)

The company makes repeated promised to send workmen round to repair, there have been a couple of occasions when people turn up with no equipment such as ladders, etc and therefore they are unable to do the work required.

When the company is called, they make sure no one is available to speak to or if you do speak to someone they are very rude.

At the end of the day the job is not being completed to a reasonable standard, the people are not looking to make trouble, just regular people looking to have a job finished that they paid good money for.

The company are not members of the DGCOS sadly.

Trading standards have been pretty useless and almost seem uninterested.

The people paid by credit card and I wondered what can be done?

Also is this covered by Section 75 refunds on credit cards?

What options are open to my friends?

Obviously they want the job done and finished rather than a refund and they want the easiest route I imagine, though how feasible that is now is anyones guess?!

I doubt they are GGF members either, most of the poor service comes from companies that DONT belong to trade bodies (when will people learn that cheapest isnt best?)

If its under £5k sue them in the small claims court. You must have written to them giving them time to react etc, but sue, get legal. Doesnt always work, and often they will get nasty because they dont like being held to account.

Your friends should be contacting the credit card company if they paid in full by card. They were inticed into the contract and should be covered by the card.

finally, try getting a written estimate from a.n.other company to complete the works (probably needed anyway for the court), say you will get them to do it and back charge the first company. Again you are within your rights to do so, its just unlikely they will honour it, and often close the business, then reopen the next day

    sorry couldnt be more helpfull

Buying quality goods which last, should be an investment that saves money. :T
Buying cheap products which fail, wastes money and costs twice as much in the long run.

Don't get me wrong the company wasn't cheap, it isn't a small company either, they just seem to be a total mess as far as doing business.

My dad had similar problems with a large window company. He put a large sign in the window naming the company and stating the problems. It really annoyed them .They sorted the windows very quickly.
