I'm looking to instruct a conveyancer for a straightforward purchase with no chain. Has anyone had any experience of an online firm called legalmove? Apparently they are part of a big conveyancing firm called Hammonds direct so presumably they know what they are doing. They are by far the cheapest quote I have had for the purchase and they are open 7 days a week and have a case tracking system which I think may be useful.
However, in my experience if something appears too good to be true it usually is!

    Hiya

I've instructed legalmove after it was recommended to me by a colleague of mine. He's just bought a house and said Legalmove were on the ball the whole time throughout the process.

    Good luck
  • You could also try - haven;t used them myself, but they have a good reputation.

just to give the flip side of the coin and in no way suggesting that either company is involved but today speaking to a friend who used an online conveyancing firm. They exchanged a week or so ago and all was fine, they 'completed' Friday and solicitors on their purchasers forwarded the money on to their solicitor. No onward chain from there, however 4 days on despite threats of the Law Society (and also the Law Society getting involved due to the number of complaints received in last 24 hours) no-one has been able to contact the call centre of the firm. They've established that the companies phone contract has been suspended by it's supplier but still no idea if their proceeds have paid off their mortgage. Not sure how many others are in the same position. No guarantee that a local solicitor may not 'disappear' the same but at least you have a door you can go knocking on at the time rather than some faceless voice at other end of country you can't contact. All very bizarre(and worrying)
