What is wrong with car insurance comparison websites?

I have to renew my car insurance. The only change I have is that I have one more year of no-claim bonus, so it should be cheaper now. On the contrary I just get £50-100 more expensive quotations, even quotation offered in the letter from current insurance company is cheaper. What is going wrong with gocompare and moneysupermarket? I have tried some more similar websites but they show nearly the same prices.
Are there any better places to get cheaper car insurance?

Mine always work out cheaper through gocompare etc.
If I go through topcashback etc, the same quotes with the same companies usually work out dearer, normally by the amount of the cashback.
To be fair though, I always beat my renewal price.

Yes I think so I noticed that ours went up quite a bit this year.

I had a £57 increase in my premium renewal last week from Swiftcover- nothing has happened to me or the car during the year. When I asked why they claim it was because there has been a high number of claims during the year (personal injury and the snow!) and the costs to them had to be spread across their customer's premiums.

What are the chances they'd reduce everyone's premiums if there was no snow and a drop in claims??! I'm sure zilch!

They do always moan about how claims have pushed up costs year in year out and they always commission some insurance friendly organisation to come up with the figures to back it up. Well I don't believe them. I have zero evidence to back up my stance but I don't think claims have gone up as much as has been made out. I do reckon their pay keeps pace with rising premiums though.

Be warned, the insurance companies are buying out the comparison websites.....

For example confused.com is owned by Admiral car insurance (which explains why Admiral were always cheapest on quotes for the last 4 years).
