Hi All,
Could someone please explain to me how I work out my LHA entitlement?
I have used the entitledto website, but that doesn't seem accurate to me.
I know my LHA rate and I work p/t.
Thanks for your help.

entitledto is probably as good as any, you need to drop down to private rented and submit your LHA in the box
someone on here had the formula which if I remember was: you pay 65% of you income that is in excess of £65 to rent and if your LHA is higher than that amount then it is the difference that is topped up
eg LHA £80, earnings £165 net..excess income = £100 (£165-£65) 65% for housing = £65 so £15 LHA....I think/hope that is correct.
ran this through entitledto and it comes out £5 less so maybe slightly different allowance0 -
The calculation is quite complicated but basically,
We take your weekly income
Take off any disregards (earnings disregards)
Take away your applicable amount (what the Govt say you need for basic living costs - £65.45 for a single adult over 25)
You pay 65% of the difference towards your rent and HB pay the rest up to the LHA rate suitable for your circumstances.
I would suggest that you contact your local council to get them to do a calculation or visit their website as if they are like mine, they have a calculator on there.I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.
