    Thanks for everyone's replies.

I didn't realise that it could invaildate the landlords insurance.

I have been looking at houseshares (im under 25 so i can only rent a room or a bedsit), but im still having no luck.

No, i havent been to the council. I live about quite far away from where im trying to move to so its not easy for me to get up there very often. I guess i will have to find a grotty place for the time being and hopefully it will be easier for me when im there to find somewhere nicer.

    Thanks for all the advice.

I think that's a very reasonable response. I'm sure many of us have had to live in some degree of squalor in our youth and we all survived and moved on.

Good luck with your jobhunting and the OU study.

You cannot be a full time student with the OU,although the landlord may not know that.

There are some rare exceptions to this. I was a full-time PhD student at the OU, working on campus and living on a research student's grant.

One of my fellow-students, from Nigeria, had a nightmare when he arrived at Heathrow. The Immigration Officer who met him "knew" that you cannot be a full-time OU student, and so deduced that all my friend's documentation about his full-time studies, funding and so forth, had to be forgeries. It took him hours to get into the country!
