Cheap Flights to Australia/New Zealand

Last year, I think it was Singapore Airlines, reduced flights to Sydney down to around £450.

Now, I can't find any less than around £600!!

Has anybody seen any offers lately, or know of any coming up? We're looking to travel around Oct/Nov but would consider a bit earlier/later if we found a cheap deal.

Thanks,

Helen

Hi Sunshine, you might find it dificult to get anything less than £600. I usually book through one of the specialists _ Travelbag, Travelmood etc. They are usually the ones who can let you know when the airlines have any offers on. You can book directly with the airlines (online) but you probably wouldn't get any special prices. Also, dont leave it too late to book. Unlike package tours, the price goes up the nearer deparure date. They know that there will always be business people taking last minute flights, & of course dont crib about high fares as their companies are paying. Also, long haul flights you usually have to pay either in full when you book, or within 1 month, otherwise, they wont hold the quoted price & you could end up paying much more.
Other than that, if you've never been to Oz before, its a gret place & you'll have a lovely time. ( been there 10 times)

I flew with Malaysia Airlines and they where fantastic
I went in Jan (australian summer so peak time) and it cost £600
However I just got a flight for £540 for Sept.

I flew alone last time and they upgraded me to business class no extra cost.

£600 to go a helluva long way there and back is a bargain!

Hi, last year I booked Bangkok return with Singapore for £350. Bargain. However most are now charging £600 like you said. If it is easier finance wise, get Air Asia X Stansted to Kuala Lumpur single for about £250-300 then another flight to Australia cheap. You can get the return flight when over there and gives you a bit of time to utilise finances. Just a thought. I flew 15 times with Air Asia and never waited in check in because there were so many staff, and the flights landed early. Top CSRs too.

I think anyone who compares flight prices to last years amazing Singapore Airlines offers (£349 to Christchurch etc) needs to remember that some of the prices were better than have been seen for many many years, and in all reality are very unlikely to be repeated. You got an amazing deal - make sure you don't have unreasonable expectations this year. In my opinion -

£500-£600 to Oz / Nz now represents an excellent deal.
£400 to Asia is pretty decent as well.

Might be worthwhile flying into sydney and get a cheap budget airline(jetstar/virgin blue) from sydney to melbourne as sydney is normally a bit cheaper to fly into

Carrying on from my post above, I've been checking for Brisbane flights next Feb & the cheapest I can find ( from Manchester) is £1070!!!!!. I cant believe it. At least £290 of that is B**** taxes. I was also hoping for a couple of days in singapore this time, but the hotel rooms there are unbelievably expensive. It all seems to have gone crazy.
