English money out of Scottish ATM's

Any HSBC cash machine I've used up here has given english notes.

Barclays in Aberdeen dispense English notes.

The Nationwide one at my Asda dispenses english money. We always use it before going abroad as it can be a struggle to get someone to change scottish money.

A lot of places in England, especially southern England, put up a real fight when you present Scottish notes. A Chinese takeaway in Oxford refused to give me the food when I gave them a Scottish £5 note to pay!

I always go to a NATwest machine for mine and always english.
I read somewhere that all airport cah machines are to be dispensing english notes but not sure if it's started.

I have it on good authority that Natwest always dispense Scottish notes

Unfair as it might seem, you will often get a significantly lower exchange rate for Scottish notes abroad. I remember in Tennessee the difference was breathtaking-this was before I discovered MSE!

In Texas I got the same rate with my Scottish notes as I did with my English notes...

Guess it depends on the bank!

The Natwest ATM in Dundee dispenses English notes.

Scottish notes are, sadly, not legal tender, and they can still be awkward for some businesses to exchange, so I can see why OP might want to take soem back up English notes.

I only found out the Natwest ATM recently, it will be handy for slipping a bit of money to nephews when they are visiting from Darn Sarf.:p
