My own personal feeling is that is would be much less stressful for the cats to be left in their own home rather than being sent to a cattery, especially as your two aren't bosom pals.

Luckily you've got plenty of time to find some suitable candidates for cat-sitting and to take up references.

Not in your area I'm afraid, but I have found a cat sitter to be far less stressful for the cats, and cheaper too. Ask around, look online, and make sure you take references up.And trust your instinct, too. My current cat sitter ( who has now become a good friend) was relatively new when we started using her, she did have some references etc, but it just felt absolutely right and I felt very comfortable with her being in the house.

My cats are definitely happier in their own surroundings.

We have 2 similar aged cats- our older one had never been to cattery till she was 5 and went for the first time this year- she was fine but we decided not to make them share- however it was only an extra quid a day for them to have their own chalet- might be worth asking as I was suprised there wasn't a bigger discount for 'sharers'

My mum though has a company called pet pals come to look after her 2 (once 3 :-( ) as she found it better value and less stressful (they are v old 21yrs and 16 yrs). The lady she has is lovely and leaves a little diary eg. Jenny came for a little cuddle today etc....

I would say if you can find a similar company (we couldn't find one near us) this is prob best for your kitties but don;t worry too much if you have to put them in cattery theywill be fine

There are for and against for both options.

The big point in favour of a cattery is you KNOW they are secure, and safe.
With a 'sitter' would they come in when they are called!?

As others have said visit the catteries, best one would be where there is space between each cat area, reduces cat infections & fleas!

    Good luck.

Can't recommend anyone in your area but, I've used both catteries or professional cat sitters in the past.

If you decide to use a cattery, please visit before hand as some are blooming awful! I once had the misfortune of having to put my cat into a cattery at short notice in middle of the school holiday season and could only get her into one that was also a kennels. The cats were stuck in cages rather than proper pens and had no room to move about properly. I felt terrible but didn't have any other choice at the time. Now if she has to go she goes to a luxury cattery with individual pens with nice high level insulated cabins and a scenic view of the countryside :T and it costs about £10 per day.

My cat sitter is really good. I found her through a recommendation from someone else. You could ask your vet as I know my cat sitter uses the same vet as me and sometimes gets recommendations that way. She is insured and will deal with any emergencies, she comes twice a day, makes sure the cat is in the house and ok, feeds and scoops the poop! It is pricey though at £15 per day but is sometimes less hassle!!!

What part of Surrey are you in? I've used catteries in the past but now luckily have a friend who is willing to pop in every day so don't use catteries any more.

I've used a few in the past though and if I'm in your area, maybe able to recommend.
