The ride in the new model estate isn't harsh (for me) but we don't know if the OP's budget will stretch.

Never driven an 'old style' Mazda6.

I read reviews when Mazda did the mid life update to the first Mazda 6 and suspension improvements were among the changes, along with different interior trim and some exterior tweaks.
