Hello, my partner has serious CSA arrears, on Friday morning the Debt Colelctors came to the house demanding the money, its about £2010.32 he owes in arrears. The thing is he has not worked for a year. He was signed on but had to sign off to help his friend out with some work. My question is how far can this go if he cant pay? He does not have the money to pay £1000 this month and the remainder enxt month. Please help!!!!

Did he know about the arrears before? If he did then he should have contacted the CSA to arrange for a payment plan.
Have youtried to contact the CSA? If not that would be my first suggestion, if you have then you need to get an emergency appointment with the CAB and get someone to act on your behalf.Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -
if he doesnt pay they will take him to the local magistrates court and get a liability order granted (mine is for £20,000!!) , this will enable them to send the bailiffs round or put a charging order against and property you own, if you disagree with the arrears then you need to tell the csa, dont do anything over the telephone, they will lie and decieve you and deny any knowledge of the conversation, do everything in writing and always keep a copy of any correspondence, debt collectors have no powers, bailiffs have powers but they are extremely limited0

request a payment breakdown asap0

Thanks, he did contact the CSA to tell them about his situation but they didnt want to know and said that he should still be paying his CSA of £160 per month. He lives with his mum still as his ex took his house, can they still take things to repay the debt?Freemans = £450, Alliance & Leicester Overdraft £275.00, Vanquis Credit card = £850  Second job = £200 per month.0

Yep. Get a breakdown and check it and recheck it, they are very very often wrong.
If bailiffs do turn up to take anything....nothing is his , it's all his mums. They can't then take it.
Chances are he will end up in the Magistrates Court and he will fill an Income/Expenditure report. They will make an attatchment of earnings order and take a few quid a week.Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those affected (Benjamin Franklin) JFT96...YNWA0 -
Thanks for everyones help. Will all these arrears go to his ex or have the CSA already paid this to her? He has already filled in a income/expenditures report but nothing was taken into considertion!Freemans = £450, Alliance & Leicester Overdraft £275.00, Vanquis Credit card = £850  Second job = £200 per month.0

Why are they still insisting he must pay £160 a month if he is unemployed ... or is he?
Did he notify them when he stopped working? Did he pay the basic £5 a week when on JSA or IS, whatever he was on. Did he then inform the CSA when he signed off but wasn't working ... but you say he stopped signing on to help a mate with work ... was he earning then? And did he notify the CSA at every change of circumstances?August GC 10th - 10th : £200 / £70.61
