I get most of my text books gratis, but thought the following might be of use to some of you - especially given that a lot of standard basic medical science texts [Rang, Ritter and Dales Pharmacology; Wheaters Histology; Underwoods Pathology; all the Crash Courses; Mimms Medical Microbiology; Baynes and Dominiczaks Medical Biochemistry etc and clinical med texts (Kumar and Clark, Roberts etc) are published by Elsevier.
Hope it is of use to someone...

How do you manage to get your medical text books free? I think about 80% of my physio course books are Elsevier, so will definitely check out price comparisons on some I need for my final year. Thanks.0

I work freelance for them (reviewing current editions of text books for which they are building a business case to bring out a new edition, reviewing new concepts and new titles while in progress and that sort of thing) - usually get offered £X for work done or £X plus 25% (or there about) in text book credit. I also keep a monthly weblog for them and get a fair book credit for doing that.
Not including books I've bought on ebay, I've only brought 1 text book since starting med school!
If you think you could do the same it is always worth having a look online (or in your text books to see who the physio development editors are) and contacting them...April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200
