Given the cost of Railway sleepers, those projects must have been £1000s to do.

Wow, I love that Mediterranean garden! I think I need more sleepers... I shall pass the url on to OH and let him choose something he would like to do :-)

So, other than being lucky enough to be given some, what sort of places would sell them at a reasonable price?

I built 2 large raised beds, a raised bed kitty prison (work in progress) and another L shaped flower bed/pond/water feature.

Fantastic thread, my imagination is going now. I have to redo my log edging this summer and they'd be perfect.

    How heavy are they generally?

Weights vary, but they can be extremely heavy. I remember breaking some paving slabs by dropping the end of one. I was moving them by rolling them length ways. E.G. lifting one end up until it was vertical then going to the other side to lower it till flat . I had 40 them to move!

Moving them is a 2 'man' job really. :)

The ones I ordered were 80kg each, definitely a two person job, or in my case 15 of us, My mate runs the local judo club, and brought them up for "team bonding", I provided the BBQ and beers they did the rest.

IIRC they're about £18 each new. Being creosoted might put peeps off, but I'd have though £10 - £12 each on EBay was reasonable?
