I am definitely less swollen but now having a peeling/flaky look around one eye and across the chin (flaking in other places too but the ones described are worst). I still have swelling around both eyes and have a red all over effect (hence their confusion about how I got so sunburnt over the weekend).

But thanks Beanie, it is definitely improving. I was brave and applied it again last night (or stupid). I'm just desperate to have better skin.

I did look at the cheapie bio oil in Aldi - rang Bookworm and got her to google bio oil ingredients. They are similar but not quite the same so I thought maybe I should just use my boots points or something and get the proper one? If I really want good skin why risk buying cheaper oil if it might not work?

    Hiya Katsu

I had that antibiotic cream when I was at uni - went on the pill three months later I got the worst acne I have EVER had,doc insisted the two weren't related, had the cream stuff - I remember the bleached towels and flannels, turned me into a rosy cheeked country girl at best or a flakey disaster at worst, red raw and bleeding. I didn't leave the house for two days.

Any how I went to a doctor at home and he changed my pill, the spots got better(3/4 instead of full on lumpy bumpy bits everywhere. God it made me so unhappy at that point) although never totally cleared up until I came off the pill. My face has got lots of scars, flares up loads if I am on or under stress, lack of sleep also does me in. The one thing I found that helped during the really bad phase was drinking water. I just remember my face being so sore.

now I just use the Simple range and no moisturiser at night. I should really use the bio oil perhaps.

    all the best xxx

Katsu, Morrisons do a 'cheap' version of Bio-oil. Its called Resue oil (near its face creams etc) and is amazing. I got mine for my burns/strech marks and its done wonders on the former but not used it long enough for the latter. I payed £3 for it I think and still have 3/4 of the bottle left, its about 7months old.

    Hi all, Night all :rotfl:

Wow I might give that a go! I have a Morrisions!

    cheers Pap xx

    Hi Pap

Is that sunburn you are referring to? My daughter seems to burn as soon as the sunshines, so I wondered whether to get some for her to give it a go?

pap, thank you. I will have a look when I go there next :)

tenmah - I burn easily - I burn through tents and windows  We camp quite a bit and if i try to lie in I can feel myself burnin. I find aloe vera gel (I've got a big bottle from the body shop) is great and for "proper" burns I dilute lavender oil in water and dab it on - prevents blisters and speeds healing a treat.

Conrad is challenging - I think it helps if you read a bit about the colonization of the Congo by the Belgians before reading him. It's truly stomach turning, horrible stuff (approx. 10m Congolese killed or worked to death), but if you can read up a bit it gives you perspective on what he's writing. Heart of Darkness is about someone allowing themselves to be seduced by all the horrible things around them without questioning it - but of course if you don't know much about the history, its all an old bore going on about not much interesting! Read it and re-watch Appocolypse Now, IMHO the best transition from book to film in history.

Can you tell I'd rather be studying literature, any day of the week :-)

PM me how I can get you the Scarlett Letter, its really small and I bought it used (in Cambodia!) so happy to send it along.

do you have any suggestions of what to read about the history? I'd love to read more non fiction about the scramble. I found Heart of Darkness very patronising towards the 'natives', which is why I had a problem with it.

elfen, I prefer old books, with a history and you can see how they've been well loved... and you don't risk paper cuts! Storage is a problem for me too, I have way more books than shelves, I've got a load to get put up but I need to get someone to help, and then to work out where I've got space for more shelves. I've got a whole wall of the bedroom waiting, when the refurb gets done and I can put bookcases there I'll be more organised. Until then it'll just attract mould though.
    Coooeeeeee!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Ames - lemon is an acid and a bleach, you can use it to lighten your hair so surely it would burn the sunburn more?
