Help with housing please

Hello, i was wondering if anyone could help me please as to be honest im quite confused!
At the moment myself, my partner and toddler are lodging with a friend. Weve just moved back from spain and are unemployed.
We are claming housing benefit £173 fortnightly (our rent is £240 fortnightly), we also claim JSA, Child tax credits and child benefit.
Now we are looking to rent a place of our own that accepts Housing Allowance and have found somewhere. Now what i need advise on is what to do next!?
Do i have to go to the housing office, can they just change the claim over? Will it be a whole new claim....this new place is more rent than what we pay now.
Sorry if ive rambled on a bit but any help would be great thank you!

You just need do update them with a change of circumstance and give a copy of your tenancy agreement.

So we can call the letting agency ourselves, we dont have to go through them? Also is there anyway we could get help with a deposit or to buy furniture? Thanks for your reply.

If your local council offers a rent deposit scheme they will pay it for you and you pay them back weekly. Usually about £10 a week. No help for first months rent though. You need this before you can get the tenancy agreement. Then take it to the council. Have you checked the lha rate too?
