Advice on benefit entitlements on leaving employment?

I had been on income support as a lone parent since 2005 with 2 dependants.
I have been employed part time 24 hours a week over 3 days since June last year after studying for two years at college.
I have a 1 and half hour commute to and from work each day.
My mother who took care of my children whilst i worked has become ill and can no longer help me therefore I am searching for local part time work to fit around my children currently aged 12 and 10. Can anyone please tell me if i would be entitled to any benefits if I left work before i found another job??? I leave home at 7.15am and do not get home til 7.30pm. I also have to do 2 early shifts per month where I am up at 4am. Without my mothers support I am unable to cope with these hours. Family and friends are helping with the children at the moment but I cannot rely on their good nature indefinately. I am very worried and would appreciate any advice. Thank you
