18th Birthday (Male) any ideas on a cool gift?

Options
My husband's nephew is 18 this month and I'm all out of ideas. He is working, although still living at home, so can afford to buy himself most things.
I asked my SIL for ideas and she suggested most family members were giving him a £50 gift card however I'm a bit old fashioned about cash and gift vouchers being a cop out and to be honest was planning on spending closer to £35.

Does anyone have any ideas for more unusual things - it's become harder each year to find a "cool gift".

Thanks

How about tickets to see a comdian? Ricky gervais is on sale if hes into him Or Boxing tickets?

also seen as hes going to be 18 how about a bottle of jack daniels or some sort of 'shot'?

    Good luck x

Comedian tickets are a great idea - look for inspiration from his DVD collection as to which comedians he likes.

Thank you - tickets to a show hadn't crossed my mind - I think that's a winner and I have to confess I hadn't made the connection between 18 and alcohol - I suddenly feel very old now I've realised he can legally have a drink!

  • if in doubt, you can also get ticketmaster vouchers (i know it's still vouchers) but i think they're much better than tickets to see a show...

I made a friend an ale hamper for his birthday recently & he loved it.
It can be adapted to any drink I guess, but this is what I put in it....

London Pride Clock (made from a recycled London Pride Bottle)
    London Pride Pint Glass
2 x bottle of London Pride
2 x London Pride fridge magnets (made from the bottle tops)
1 x Pack of hangover sweets

It is easy to come across stuff for the popular drinks like Guinness or Budwieser, Ebay always has some cool (and some weird!) stuff xx

Thought I'd post an update -

Was all set to buy the ticketmaster vouchers when hubby suggested that I get him vouchers for a local Go Karting centre. It's very highly regarded and popular and he thought he'd like that.

So I bought a £50 voucher which he can use for either a Grand Prix session or towards another type of session.

I finally bumped in to SIL a week or so after his birthday who told me it was a nice thought, but he probably won't use it as he won't go alone and it's unfair to expect his friends to pay for a session to join him. I did suggest he could use the voucher in any way so he could split it but the reaction was lukewarm.

So, I wish I'd listened to the advice and bought the Ticketmaster vouchers. Teenagers

Thanks - I also thought it was ungrateful. Normally I have a pretty good relationship with SIL but I'm pretty mad about this one. Mostly because hubbie's nephew wtill hasn't bothered to acknowledge the gift at all. I don't have children and I know that SIL takes the view I'm out of touch with reality and what is/isn't acceptable for children but I still think good manners matter. Anyway, off my soap box now!
