Cost of specs rant grrrrrr...

  • I went to pick the specs up after a 2 week wait. They were absolutly horrible, I couldn't believe it. The lenses were partly sticking through the front of the frame. I'm still getting over it, and it's been about 5 days now since I first saw the glasses. I told the assistant there was no way I was accepting those, they would need to be sent back and re-done.

I was shocked that both the company who made the lenses and Rayners expected me to accept the specs in that visually bad state. The lenses weren't as thin as I'd expected either. Very disappointed.

I certainly won't give them another chance if they turn up as bad, I'll be getting a refund and going elsewhere.

On the off chance that it helps someone on here, Optical Express do a 25% student discount, that they do not advertise [or in deed tell you about, despite having spent 20 minutes chatting to the optitian about your course, while she examines your eyes!] in store... I got home, read their website and so called to complain. They raised a check for the 25% I should have saved - meaning I saved £56 on my last pair of glasses and frames...

PS - the 'risk' with buying designer frames on line is often they are cheap fakes that will not cope with having lenses put in. If it seems too good to be true, it ususally is....

It had nothing to do with the frames, it's the bad workmanship of the comapny that makes the lenses. I've never had a pair of glasses that I've been disappointed with until now, and considering the cost,I think I have the right to be peeved off.

Never tried specsavers. What are they like with high perscriptions?

third time lucky with posting this!!

does you work with computers? your work may be able to help you with the cost

Then should have vouchers for free eye tests. If you need glasses, if the optician ticks the VDU box, your work can supply yu with a vouchers for approx £50 towards your glasses.

Then you do with I did, go to Specsavers, get a pair on buy one get one free, and get a LOVELY pair with were £69!!
  • No I don't work with computers, although I may aswell, since I'm never off my pc :p

I'll have to wait and see what my glasses look like when they arrive, but if I'm not happy with them this time around, I'll defo consider specs savers. I would still want to use the frame i purchased as I like it, wonder if I'd be inline for buy 1 get 1 free if I used my own frame??
