in Credit cards
Hi there
Im getting married in July, have saved well for wedding and think i will be on target to get everything paid. We would like to pay for our honeymoon on a credit card and then pay it off within about 6 months, so would be looking at one of the 12month 0% purchase cards. Im just wondering how likely it is that i will get a large enough credit limit? How do they work these things out? I currently earn around £25k (but bring home more through antisocial hours pay, ments) have no overdraft, have one credit card but with no debt on it. Pay my mortgage (had for 6 months) on time. i have in the past had a couple of occasions where i havent paid my monthly credit card payment on time through being a forgetful dimwit-didint realise this could impact my credit score at the time (i was too late to join MSE!). The only debts ive ever had were student overdraft which was increased several times as i managed it well and never exceeded it, but its all paid back now and CC for up to £600 limit. However i know that not having had much debt can count against you with these sort of applications.
i would prob want to put about £3k onto credit card, im wondering whether i will be able to get that big a limit, and whether any particular card is more generous in the limits they set?
thanks so much for your time x

What credit card do you currently have? what is the limit on that? is it the £600 you mention? How recently have you used that card?
Have you had a copy of your credit file to see how many and how recent any late payments/ missed payments were?
Is your mortgage a joint mortgage with your partner? are you shown as financially associated on your credit report?
£3k on a 0% deal is a pretty high limit from the info you have given.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
errrrr...okay i know none of these answers lol. i have a barclay card which i got when i was a student. It has a £600 limit (limit set when i was a student and ive never needed to increase it) , i used it and paid off more than monthly minimum for a few months after leaving uni. since then i have used it now and again and paid off in full each time. i've prob had 2 late payments total, which would have been paid within a few days. these would prob have been about a year ago. They were purely forgetfulness rather than inability to pay but i guess they dont know that.
Its a joint mortgage with my partner, i think he must have a good credit rating as he has a couple of cards with high limits on them, but doesnt owe very much on them at the mo, and has been offered ridiculous limits like 6k in the past despite not being a high earner.
i have never accessed my credit report, maybe i should. something like experian?0
