Hi all!
Was wondering if anyone has experience in exam marking? Particulary for GCSE to A-Level scripts?
Would be great to know who will hire enternal markers, what sort of pay to expect etc.

i think you have to hold degree in that subject and you have to apply directly to the exam boards. its quite hard to get accepted. hthO/S Debt: PL £[STRIKE]15207.34[/STRIKE] £9884.55; HSBC £4060.99; Tesco£1430.15; M&S £5990.17; Virgin [STRIKE]£5158.69[/STRIKE] £4210.14; Egg £4619.00; O/S = ££30,292.42 AIM - To Be Debt Free 56 months0

i do think you need to have a teaching qualification before you apply, and from what i hear the pay isnt great for the amount of work you have to do. its mainly new teachers on these sorts of things i think.Modern travel: breakfast in Paris, dinner in Rome, bags in Singapore0

You do not require any teaching qualification/experience to become a marker for the OCR exam board -

Each summer I mark 13000 questions. I come out with around £750 after tax.
It is hard work and takes about 3-4 weeks to do.0 -

Of course you do - no way would you get a job without a minimum of a good degree in the subject and v unlikely without teaching qualification/experience.
I exam mark and have done so for years - be prepared for extreme tedium...but convenient in that you can do it in your own time, whilst kids in bed, etc.0 -

No, it is not essential to have teaching experience or teaching qualifications for OCR.
I believe you are mistaken - how could an unqualified teacher be able to mark, for example an A level Physics paper?
its not just a simple yes or not - there are question whichs require the marker to have detailed knowledge of the topic in question.
I certainly wouldnt like an unqualified person to mark my childs exam paper!O/S Debt: PL £[STRIKE]15207.34[/STRIKE] £9884.55; HSBC £4060.99; Tesco£1430.15; M&S £5990.17; Virgin [STRIKE]£5158.69[/STRIKE] £4210.14; Egg £4619.00; O/S = ££30,292.42 AIM - To Be Debt Free 56 months0 -
Sorry, I am correct.
My BIL who is a chemist was able to mark science papers for OCR last summner. He does not have teaching experience or teaching qualifications.
I suggest you check their website to confirm what I have said.0 -

My ICT tutor said i should look into this, but i don't hold anything in terms of qualifications of teaching. (I am starting a teaching degree in September)
However, it requires an 'NQF level 4 qualification' and I have only done A-levels and 1 year of a previous degree.
Do you know what a NQF level 4 qualification is ? Or how to get it?
ThanksThere are 10 types of people in this world. Those that understand binary and those that don't0 -
NQF level 4 is equivalent to a Certificate of Higher Education (which is the first year of university).0
