Best thing to do is go by word of mouth recommendation. Tell your son/daughter to ask around his friends at school etc. Although having said that I just went for the cheapest I could find in true MSE style, and he turned out to be fantastic, but I'm nowhere near you!

The odds on that happening again are the same as those for winning the lottery. MSE is fine for cheap goods / services of a uniform standard, but for one to one tuition where you learn a skill for life, you really get what you pay for.I just went for the cheapest I could find....and he turned out to be fantastic,
That doesn't mean go with the big brands like AA / BSM / Red / Bill Plant as they inflate their prices to cover their massive franchise fee overheads without any guarantee you'll get a decent instructor. After all, the instructors with the worst teaching / interpersonal skills tend to stick with big franchises as it's the only way they can find work. An independent instructor has to rely on his reputation for recommendation, so find a "reassuringly expensive" independent instructor.0 -
Yeah I know! He was actually with a franchise, but left part way through my learning as it was rubbish - took a fortune off him in return for nothing basically.0
