]A lot of people dont understand that when you buy silver in the Uk yes you pay VAT but then thats what its worth when you sell it.
Are you sure about that?
Secondhand Silver Coins & Bars
We also get a small number of second-hand silver coins, both collectors' coins and bullion coins, although we get far more demand for them than we can supply. This also applies to silver bars, but even more so. Most second-hand goods can be resold under a special scheme whereby the only VAT payable is on the dealers margin, and therefore almost negligible."I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience, children. I'm coming to find you now." - Harry Powell, Night of the Hunter, 1955.0 -
Harry you obviously have no experience with buying and selling silver in the UK.
Dont worry most people dont know, thats why they just buy gold, and thats why silver is such an opportunity.
Take bullionbypost.com as an example. This is for 1 silver maple leaf.
QTY Net* VAT* Gross*
1+ £19.49 £3.41 £22.90
You pay £22.90 for a brand new one including VAT.
If you wanted to sell it on ebay you will get something like 23 - 25 quid for it, but you dont have to pay VAT because its now 2nd hand.0 -

or buy it from ebay for £18.83

I don't have your experience in buying silver, but I do know that if I bought a coin for £22.90 and sold it for £18.83 then I'd be poor quite quickly....
MrEnglish, you don't seem to have much experience in investing, but don't worry as here is an article about investing in Silver ETFs which are quicker and easier to sell in a downward market. You can also put the ETF in an ISA which means zero capital gains tax - unlike gains from physical silver that cannot be held in an ISA and so will be subject to cap gains (which I believe is about to be hiked to 40%)

If you can buy a genuine silver maple leaf for less than 20 quid then go for it. You can sell it for more easily. Be careful they often make more on postage so charge less for the silver. That one you showed in your link charges $15 dollars to send to the UK and did you know you then have to pay import tax AND VAT on top of everything. All my silver I sell is already in the UK nothing else to pay. The price I quote is the final figure including insured delivery.
Of course paper silver investments are quick and easy. They will do everything they can to get you to buy paper and make it as difficult as possible to get real silver.
Ask yourself what happens when the silver price really takes off, are they able to quickly get hold of the millions of oz`s of real physical silver? Or will they default and you will be one of the thousands of creditors that they cant afford to pay.
Oh and if you quietly sell a little silver here and there you dont have to pay cap gains tax. I dont do it as a business, just sometimes sell my personal things, nothing wrong with that.
Thats the beauty of physical silver its private, and keep it out of other peoples hands. Not if you buy fools paper gold and silver.0 -

'They' being 'the man' or alternatively 'the aliens' who beamed messages about ETFs into my brain because I wasn't wearing a tin foil hat? (or should that be silver foil hat?)
As I said at the start, anyone who buys gold or silver from a strange(r) on an internet forum (regardless of whether that seller believes that 'the man' is after him) needs to see a psychiatrist.
Nothing wrong unless you go over your capital gains tax threshold, then it's a criminal offence called Tax Evasion. It seems that you use MSE to ramp silver, then sell it to gullible people and you also don't declare your profits to the Revenue.Oh and if you quietly sell a little silver here and there you dont have to pay cap gains tax. Alright Harry you are entitled to your opinion. We will have to just agree to disagree if you are bearish about silver. I am still very very bullish on silver.
Just look at it go up. There has been 3 spikes the last few days and it just doesnt come down again.
Now passing 13.20 - 13.30 GBP as I type.
Just look at it go! very exciting for those of us heavily invested in real physical silver.
PS for all those sending me PMs asking for prices, Im sorry Ive stopped selling for a bit. Try and buy it anywhere you can. I am buying from anyone who actually has the real thing, there is a bit of a frenzy going on!0 -
is it true that silver main use was for developing photos?
with the arrival of digital cameras there is very little use for silver in the commercial world. is this correct?0 -

Good luck with your ramping (frenzy indeed!) and your PM sales. I'm sure this is against MSE rules but then the moderators on here are too busy kicking off forum members like AD and Mr. B to worry about sleazy salescum like yourself."I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there.
