Accidental death cover

My wife who does not look too hard at her bank statements noticed that she had a charge for £8.39 on her statement. Went into her local barclays to enquire what it was for & found out it was this cover.
The assistant told her it must have been taken out over the phone, now my wife does nor remember ever taking this out.
Our question is would they have to send out any paperwork for her to sign.
Waiting for oh to get home from work to sort it out. Anyone else had this situation arise before.
cheers in advance

Accidental death cover is likely to have been sold as a separate policy so there should be forms signed and a policy document issued.
Along with the charge would be a reference number which is likely to be the policy number. You can find out who the accidental death cover insurance company is and then contact them to see how you ended up with a policy.
Also, if this was a direct debit charge, you can ask the BANK for a full and immediate refund under the direct debit guarantee scheme (reason, you did not receive notification of the direct debit) and at the same time, cancel the direct debit to stop future payments.0 -
Oh spoke to barclays & wait for it she has been paying this for seven years.
They have told her it was done verbally over the phone.
My questions are:
Did they have to send her paperwork for her to sign
If they did'nt where does she stand legally.
We have asked for copys of any paperwork to be sent to us.
This is a lesson to her to check every payment on her statement.if i had known then what i know now0
